The monogram trend: Decor just got personal

Ever since I laid eyes on Jonanthan Adler’s letter pillows I have been a bit obsessed with monograms in décor.

Nothing adds an ‘I live here’ touch to a room quite like a well-placed monogrammed something. Using monogram items to flaunt your initials and make a space truly your own is probably one of the simplest, wallet-friendly, décor trends to implement. When it comes to putting your stamp of initial on your living space the options are (almost) endless…

Whether you’re dressing up a sofa or you’re tossing them on top of the bed, throw pillows are a quick and easy way to add a little character to your room. Add a monogram and you really up the ante… I am loving White Twig’s unique take on the monogram as seen on Words and eggs

Even Apartment Therapy agrees: “A sharp addition to crisp, modern bedding is a monogrammed throw pillow, or two, and making your own is a great project for DIY-ers. Click here to make your own monogram pillow.

Here’s a great idea from blogger Carolina Panache… “if you want the look of a monogram but don’t have the time nor the talent to embroider it yourself, try using fabric paint and a stencil.” This wooden bench features decorative linen pillows that have been stenciled…

and here’s an example of the stencil method applied in a bedroom…

Love it or hate it, you can’t escape it… the monogram is a big trend for 2011, appearing on pillowcases, luggage, glassware, linens, throw pillows, wall art – you name it there is a monogram on it. The really cool thing about this trend? It’s a classic. Monograms have been around a long time and they are here to stay. And that’s a claim I’ll stake my name on.
